In 1984 Michael Jordan was undergoing his rookie season in the NBA. The very same year Jordan was signed to a deal with Nike, one which would lead to an empire of Nike Air Jordans being born.
The first Nike Air Jordans were born in 1985, and they included the original winged-basketball logo. Due to the color scheme of the original Nike Air Jordans, the NBA banned them from being worn during games. This worked out to the benefit of Nike and Jordan, increasing the demand many times over. Because of this successful debut, there have been over fifteen different Nike Air Jordans to be released, including limited editions.

While many other manufacturers have developed successful shoes, the Nike Air Jordans have dominated the sales charts since their introduction. This is due to a number of factors, including the shoe quality, the design, but most importantly, the spokesman.
To this day Michael Jordan is associated with Nike shoes. It used to be young kids who idolized Michael that became interested in getting a pair of Nike Air Jordans. Now the shoes have taken on a more broad appeal, as they carry an air of status with them. Nike Air Jordans have become so popular over the years that a rap artist named Nelly even wrote a song about the Nike Air Jordans counterpart, entitled “Air Force One's”.
Nike Air Jordans now have become a mainstay of the shoe industry. Men and women of all ages keep Nike Air Jordans as part of their wardrobe. A market has already been made for babies of less than a year old - Nike Air Jordans have become that popular.
In 2005 development began on the newest evolution of Nike Air Jordans, the Air Jordan XXI. As with all the models that came before, the announcement of their development was followed with great interest from the public, proving that the empire of Nike Air Jordans started back in 1984 is sure to continue for years to come.
